Space Foundation

The Space Foundation hired Content First to contribute to its annual Space Report produced by the Foundation's Research and Analysis division. Content First provided a new chapter on U.S. labor and workforce issues affecting America's space industry.

The Space Report 2008 provides, for the first time, details on the impact of space-related employment in state and metropolitan areas. These brand new statistics show the following:

Space industry core employment totaled 266,700 jobs in 2006, adding nearly 17,000 space industry jobs since 2003.
The increase of nearly 7 percent in just three years outpaced the 5.3 percent increase from 2003 to 2006 in overall U.S. private sector employment.
The U.S. space industry paid an annual average wage of $88,200 to its workers. This is more than double the private sector average wage of $42,400 in 2006.
The national space industry workforce is geographically dispersed, with thriving space industries located in states such as California, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, and Texas.
